Finding My Voice

The teleprompter stared back at me, a digital companion reflecting words I’d soon share with countless viewers. This wasn’t my first time behind a microphone—I’d been crafting stories on Star FM since 1999—but television brought a new dimension: eye contact. After years of letting my voice carry my passion, now my entire presence would communicate with Nigeria.

My journey began long before the lights of MiTV. As a pastor’s daughter in a family of five, I grew up moving between Abeokuta and Ilorin as my father’s clerical duties demanded. I was quite the tomboy then, tough and spirited, carrying with me the teachings my mother—a prophetess whose influence shaped me profoundly—instilled in us. Though I lost her twenty four years ago, her wisdom continues to guide my path.

“Never put your happiness in the hands of anyone or anything,” she taught me. This philosophy has been my anchor through life’s storms. When my mother passed away, our family faced challenges

“Never put your happiness in the hands of anyone or anything,” she taught me. This philosophy has been my anchor through life’s storms. When my mother passed away, our family faced challenges that tested our resilience. Yet here I stand today, grateful for the journey that brought me to where I am.

Many assume that television changes people, that the spotlight transforms humility into arrogance. But I’ve never seen myself as a celebrity—just someone fortunate enough to do what she loves. When you catch me in traffic buying roasted corn with coconut (a small joy I relish), you’ll find the same person who sits behind the news desk at Silverbird. Success hasn’t changed my core; it’s simply expanded my platform.

My passion extends beyond broadcasting. I believe deeply in lifting others as I climb. The knowledge I’ve gained, I share freely, especially with young people hungry for mentorship. There’s no joy in abundance when others lack—true fulfillment comes from creating spaces where everyone can thrive.

As editor, presenter, and producer for News Hub, I see my work as more than delivering information. It’s about giving voice to those unheard, creating connections across divides, and building bridges of understanding. Every day presents new challenges—meetings, writing, editing—but the opportunity to make an impact makes it worthwhile.

When people ask about my fashion sense, I smile and say “comfy.” When they inquire about relaxation, I confess that sleep is my sanctuary after days filled with words and ideas. These simple truths reflect my approach to life: authentic, straightforward, purposeful.

Looking ahead, I dream of expanding our news platform globally while deepening our impact locally. I envision a world where information empowers rather than overwhelms, where stories inspire action, and where young voices find the confidence to speak their truth.

The journey from radio to television wasn’t about changing mediums—it was about amplifying my purpose. Every day I step in front of that camera, I carry with me my mother’s strength, my father’s dedication, and the knowledge that what matters isn’t the spotlight, but how we use it to illuminate others.

I don’t know what tomorrow brings, but I face it with the same philosophy that has carried me this far: what will be, will be. With determination and faith, there’s nothing we cannot achieve. As I often remind myself, never say never.
